Fun With Fondant at Party Cakes in Berkley

Learning to make punch flowers

Here are the photos from the first fondant class held at Party Cakes on Saturday, January 8, 2011.  Eight 12-year-old girls learned that it’s not as easy as it looks.  Cable shows like The Cake Boss or Ace of Cakes only show the highlights of decorating their cakes.  These girls got dirty and had fun learning how to cut out fondant flowers, cover a little cake with a sheet of fondant, trim it and finish it with butter cream icing.  Then they applied their freshly formed flowers and designs to what they wanted and each walked out with their own 4″ cake…2 1/2 hours later.

Welcome students!

The class was a huge success and I would definitely do it again.  Everyone learned something, including the teacher.
