Michigan Bakery Creates 3-D Cakes

Some customers want to create a cake for themselves. Others, it’s for their kids. But this customer created this cake for his dad! Thank you Paul for being such a great customer and allowing us to create your dad’s car in cake form. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to the next celebration. Can’t wait to see what you have in mind next!

Happy Birthday Dad

It's Dad's Car in cake form!

Stacked four layers high and constructed like a wedding cake with dowels and support boards, this popcorn box will serve 30-40 hungry children easily. Yes, that’s real popcorn overflowing from the top! Party Cakes likes to use real food items whenever possible.

This cake can stand on it’s own–literally! The wheels are oreos covered with fondant icing but everything else is sculpted butter cream. You CAN eat every bit of this car!

Forgotten Harvest “Harvey” meets Party Cakes

In May, 2010, Party Cakes was asked to create a very special display cake for Forgotten Harvest, a Michigan charity specializing in distribution of free food throughout the Detroit area. The event was a birthday party for Forgotten Harvest. “Harvey” was their first delivery vehicle and the working photo is a cartoon-type van with eyes for headlights and the grill work is his smile. With such a great image to work with, it was a labor of love to create Harvey. Using four quarter sheet cakes, Harvey was carved down to the van’s shape. His wheels were Oreo cookies covered with black fondant. All the detail work was done with fondant icing including covering the board with “grass”, the road and the flowers along the way. Harvey could feed 100 people but they never cut into him at the party. Nobody wanted to because he was just too cute!

Michigan Cakes with the WOW factor

When a customer wants a unique design, it the job of the decorator to bring it to life. And when the customer brings a photo that “suggests” the type of design they would like, it is more of a challenge. Here at Party Cakes, we strive to hit the mark every time a customer challenges us. Here are a few examples of the “WOW” cakes our customers have asked us to create over the past few weeks. If you would like a personal consultation and want the “WOW” factor for your next event, please contact Party Cakes at 248-541-2253 and make an appointment with one of our design experts.

Zebra Print Wedding

Zebra Print Wedding

Weddings can happen any weekend of the year and a holiday weekend is no exception.  Here are the three wedding cakes that I created on Sunday, May 30, 2010 for three very special couples.  Each cake was different and created to their specifications–as always.

The first delivery went to Troy, MI and I arrived before the florist so the cake is “naked” it’s topper and extra floral decorations.  Each tier had a different design but all worked well together.

The second delivery took me out to Shelby, MI to Cherry Creek Country Club.  The bride decided at the last minute (5 days before the wedding!) that she did not like the “display” cake the venue was going to provide for her wedding.  That’s when the mother of the bride called Party Cakes.  We arranged to create a four tiered wedding cake display and the decorations included crystals, pearls, and gold leaf vines, all of which had to cascade down the front of the cake.

There was no topper so I had to create something that would use the decorations that were given to me.  Oh yes, the cake had to “shimmer” so I applied many layers of pearl dust with the airbrush machine.  The next photos show the detail of the decorations on two tiers.  If you look closely, you will see the “shimmer” affect created by the airbrush machine.  It looks “wet.”

The final wedding cake delivery went to Southfield at the Silver Gardens.  The theme of this wedding was “zebra” print, which was quite appropriate since the couple were married at the Zoo.  For decorating purposes, this cake took the most amount of time to create.  Each stripe is cut from black fondant icing and then pieced onto each tier of the cake.  There is NO pattern to follow and everything is done freehand.  Note:  I am not responsible for the selection of the cake topper.  That was solely the responsibility of the wedding couple.

Beginning at 8:45am on Sunday morning, all three deliveries were completed by 1pm.

Spring Wedding Cakes in Michigan

There is nothing like springtime  to open your eyes to the possibilities of creative cakes for weddings.  From fresh flowers to hand-drawn designs, the designs are endless.  This spring, my brides have brought some great ideas for me to transform into their wedding cakes.

Spring in Birmingham

Hand drawn flowers on buttercream

This spring selection was inspired by a photo from the internet.  White buttercream base icing was etched with pink flowers to look like appliques on the cake.  A grey ribbon was added to the base of each cake.  The bottom tier is composed of three 10″ layers while the top tier is the standard double layer.  Very unique and quite striking.

Springtime Butterflies

Butterflies in Flight

This latest design is inspired by springtime in Michigan and was created to showcase several different ideas.  The butterflies are a combination of silk and gum paste, which can be airbrushed to any color.  The hand-detail and ribbon compliment the elegance of this cake.  Use this design for a bridal shower, baby shower, a small wedding cake or even a birthday cake.

50 is Nifty

Happy 50th Birthday Rubin

This design is actually a small wedding cake that was modified to fit the birthday celebration for Rubin.  He was very pleased considering that he could eat his numbers on the cake because they were created from white chocolate.

When customers think outside the box for their cake designs, Party Cakes can accommodate their requests.  We look forward to serving your next event.

Creative Children’s Cakes

Thanks to shows like Ace of Cakes and the Cake Boss, the demand for creative cakes has increased by 200% in the Michigan area.  That demand has extended to Children’s Themed cakes too.  Customers do not want the grocery store decorating with just toys placed on the cake.  They want the ONE-OF-A-KIND cake that nobody else has and be the envy of their friends.  Party Cakes in Berkley has been filling that need for the past nine years offering unique designs that nobody else offers. Take a look at some of our recent creations…

Yummy, it's all cake!

Fondant and buttercream items

This special birthday cake featured fondant strawberries and fondant accents along with buttercream icing.  Mom was giddy with delight!

Alice in Wonderland Theme Jumbo Cupcake

This cupcake was the hit of the party.  Matching standard cupcakes also attended the party with a variety of decorations.  Watch for an upcoming post to view those.

It's a baseball!

Something for little boys.  This theme can also be created with a soccer ball, football or even a basketball on a “hardwood” floor.

Princess Castle 2010

Castle is carrying case for princesses

This is the newest design from the Disney merchandising marketing team, but with the Party Cakes flair.  The emphasis is on the details.  There is enough cake to serve 35-40 guests.  This cake could be made larger but not smaller.

We invite you to stop by again to see more creative children’s cake designs.  And if you have an idea, we would love to make your design come to life.  Please contact us by phone during business hours to discuss your ideas with one of our design specialists.

We look forward to serving your next event!
